front page repeats...

I hold out hope sometimes. But with etsy and the front page, well, having hope is just silly. It is a new week. But it is also only Wednesday.
Between 1-31-10 and 2-3-10 these are the front page repeats:

annarubyking (regular repeat)
awakes (regular repeat, this week + last week)
Corrabelle (featured twice on Sunday)
DearDodo (regular repeat, this week + last week)
giddyspinster (regular repeat)
girlsavage (regular repeat)
jessjamesjake (regular repeat, this week + last week)
krize (regular repeat, this week + last week)
Lirola (can I poke my eyes out now?)
maclancy (regular repeat, this week + last week)
MIXKO (regular repeat, this week + last week)
munieca (regular repeat, this week + last week)
olaladesign (regular repeat, repeat curator)
orglamix (regular repeat, this week + last week)
ozetta (regular repeat, this week + last week)
rabbitstop (you know, the new toybreaker... and regular repeat, this week + last week)
RUBYreclycled (regular repeat, this week + last week)
sleepyking (regular repeat, this week + last week)
slinkymalinkicat (perennial repeat)
studiobeerhorst
TheApple (regular repeat, this week + last week)
toybreaker (perennial repeat)
yaelfran (regular repeat)

If some asshole on the forums tries to deny that there are front page repeats and then goes on to tell you that it is all in your head, your imagination, or the pit of your deep down dark jealous soul, it simply is not. These are simply a handful of the etsy sellers who constantly are given free promotional time on the front page. It is an unfair business practice. It isn't that you are jealous, or that you take substandard photos, or make lousy product, or have a shop name that contains numbers (yes, honey, you are treading into cuckoo conspiracy territory when you suggest that one). It is just favoritism, and it is wrong.

If you make treasuries, then avoid these shops.

DNBF Front Page Repeats

No, kids, it's not your imagination! The same sellers are featured on the front page treasury on a daily basis.
yesterday and today... and probably tomorrow and forever on into the future...
slinkymalinkicat
you know, slinkymalinkicat, the vintage reseller of an ENDLESS supply of other people's prints. slinkymalinkicat is not an artist, slinkymalinkicat sells other people's work, not handmade.

HelenesDreams

featured on the front page twice in one day...
awakes

Oh, oh! Perennial forum whiner tinahdee made the front page!
tinahdee

Favoritism is so tactless. Do Not Buy From sellers who benefit from unfair business practices based in favoritism and carelessness.

really, etsy?

Is it that hard to spread the wealth around?
Tuesday 26 January 2010
rosiemusic makes the front page twice in 1 day, within the span of 4 hours.
bubbletime makes the front page twice in 1 day, within the span of 4 hours... and was featured on the previous day

poppyswickedgarden is on the front page with the same tights for the umpteenth time.

gollybard is on the front page today, as gollybard was on the front page yesterday.

slinkymalinkicat again, just like every day before that...
you know, slinkymalinkicat, who has an endless supply of prints that were manufactured by someone else, drawn by someone else... not handmade.

25 January 2010
Raceytay makes the front page twice in 1 day, 2 treasuries back to back.

With at least 333 regular treasuries and 222 treasury wests to choose from, how do the same people end up on the front page all the time?
Favoritism.
So, all you consumers do your fellow etsians a favor: don't buy from admin favorites, don't buy from these sellers. Do Not Patronize shops that benefit from unfair business practices.

Thank you for the magic!

http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6410629

Oh this one was beautiful: a thread of self congratulating stupidity!
Maybe you guys haven't noticed, but there are scores of threads on the forums bemoaning favoritism. Scores.

Try considering that people actually pass through here and have a good laugh that someone else says what they're thinking: fuck those assholes, and fuck etsy staff. We are all tired of seeing your shit.

Of course, we know that you cupcakes are petty and tactless, so we prefer to laugh at you anonymously. By doing so, we render your wrath impotent. You just have to sit there in your little half-assed hipster ass kissing ivory towers and wonder who pelts you with the occasional stone.

You know, we pay the same .20¢ to list as well. It's just that apparently we are paying the salaries of people who go out of their way to promote you all at the expense of the rest of us. And believe me, it's not that your products are quality, or that your pictures are good, or even that your tags or descriptions are accurate. It is simply a matter of a few irresponsible employees who put whatever new shiny thing catches their eye on the front page. They don't look hard, and they don't look far. And their "taste"? Well, calling it "taste" requires the use of quote marks.

Don't flatter yourselves with false feelings of security. We snark at you, we've turned your shop names into snide asides. We're tired of being shown links to your tired old shit.

If you were even remotely responsible, you'd realize that "jealously" and "psychosis" have nothing to do with it. This is just pointing out bad business practices with the suggestion that consumers avoid purchasing from sellers who are given free promotion at the expense and on the dime of all their fellow etsians. It is that simple.

the GIFT GUIDES: react!

Hello bitches!

Try something: organize chaos and terrorize with it.

You’re not in the gift guides? Hey, neither am I. But you know what, etsy ADMIN have come to your shop to “call out” to all these items in other shops… (try to see irony, or levels of syllogism, use your creativity people.)

So…

A. Boycott these shops! Convo your fellow etsy peeps with this list and say, “hey, fuck these people, etsy is calling out right there in my shop for you to patronize them over me… so DO NOT PATRONIZE these shops.”

B. Flag their shit! Go to those shops, and go over their shit with a fine toothed comb. Flag the fuck out of their shops and their items for the most minor and ridiculous and petty violations, esp. tags!

C. Inundate all of their contact emails and render their “customer support” more useless than it already is. Seriously, shut them down with “spam”. Find some email address of yours that isn’t connected to your etsy shop in any way shape or form (perhaps your husband, boyfriend, lover, wife, girlfriend…): because these are petty wannabe hipster fucktards and if you use your own addy, rest assured you will be muted and shut down: be clever bitches: be anonymous! Use that non-etsy email address to contact every etsy contact email once a day, every day for a week (yes, even the irrelevant ones) with this copy-and-pasted statement:

Dear etsy, I find it disgraceful that you are spamming my shop with TOU-violating call-outs to all of the shops on this list. I find it disgusting that you charge for useless site features while giving these select people free promotion. I will not patronize these shops, but thank you for calling them out so relentlessly so that I know not to buy from them. I will also be telling my family, friends, and associates not to patronize them.

Hello and Welcome

This blog is about etsy and personal protest and personal standards.

I am a person. I am an adult. I was once an etsy user. I may or may not still have an etsy account. I used to have one. Like many others, I joined the site wide-eyed with hope. It was such an optimistic feeling. But that optimism and hope have dissipated. I am now jaded by the etsy experience.

Of course, you’re not allowed to be jaded on etsy, it’s against the rules. Yeah, I’m sure it is in the TOU somewhere.

So, I’ll be jaded here on blogspot, because I’m a human being with a full range of emotions. I’m not an etsy Kool-Aid drinker… the more I think about it, the more that site feels like a cult… a cult of mean dumb people and bitches.

So, since etsy is a glorified store, with sellers being vendors, I’m going to share my window shopping experience with you. I will share my feelings on the vendors and the retail employees who have enabled me to feel jaded. More specifically, why I will not patronize specific etsy users, for their conduct, intentional and unintentional, and why I recommend refusing to patronize the shops that are constantly featured by that very small insular community of etsy administrators.

Look forward to someone else saying what you were thinking.
